The Breakfast Voucher Program was created by The Grocery Foundation to provide the neediest 1,000 elementary schools in Ontario with essential breakfast foods. Significant reductions of 50% or more on essential breakfast foods are made through the generous supplier and retailer sponsors. Public donations generated by the Toonies for Tummies fundraising campaign are used to purchase commodities such as milk, fruit and vegetables, and to subsidize schools needing supplemental financial support.
A bit of history
The voucher program was created by The Grocery Foundation to provide the neediest 1,000 elementary schools in Ontario with essential breakfast and/or snack foods. Significant reductions of 50% or more on food products are made through the generous suppliers and retailers. The Grocery Foundation is thrilled to be able to continue to help ensure children and youth attend school well-nourished and ready to learn. Studies show that well-nourished students have improved memory, problem-solving skills and creative abilities – overall, they perform better in school.
The Largest Voucher program in Ontario
With the help of Ontario Student Nutrition Program , Breakfast for Learning, Breakfast Clubs of Canada and ETFO (Elementary Teachers Federation Ontario) deserving schools are nominated and encouraged to participate.
The voucher program is a great way for student nutrition programs in Ontario to save on the cost of food. There are a variety of delicious foods to choose from that will provide kids with the nutrition they need to thrive each school day – all at half or below half of the retail price!
Vouchers are valid from September 2016 to July 31, 2017
